The Savage Arms 301 Single Barrel Compact break-open single-shot shotgun comes in 20-gauge and 410-gauge. This reliable and affordable entry-level shotgun is wonderfully suited for juniors and ladies.
The 301s command appreciation and enjoyment. For starters, both 20-gauge and 410-gauge feature 22” barrel lengths. Both share the matte black chrome-alloy steel barrels and a removable Winchoke-style modified choke tube.
The 20-gauge has a 14.57” length-of-pull while the 410-gauge has a 12.8” length-of-pull. They also share a matte black carbon steel receiver. Both guns measure 36” overall. The 20-gauge weighs 5.4 pounds while the 410-gauge weighs a feathery 4.6 pounds.
Both have a front bead sight. The other end has a nicely contoured medium-thickness black buttpad. Regardless of model, these two 301s are ambidextrous. The gun’s forend and curved pistol grip buttstock are matte black synthetic. These guns have a two-position hammer and a transfer bar safety. So if you drop the gun, it’s designed not to fire.
